TVHikers Old Sugarlands/Twin Creek Trail

We start our hike from Sugarlands Visitor Center. The beautiful rock bridge we cross was constructed by the CCC with rock from this area. On the trail we soon see the large rock cliff more than 70 feet high where rock was quarried. According to geologists, this area has some of the oldest rock types in the Appalachian Mountains. At mile 1.7 we come to the site where two CCC camps operated from 1933-1942.

Today you can see signs of former settlement like stacked rock walls, chimneys and clearings. We begin the Twin Creeks Trail by visiting the “Bud” Ogle home and later see Le Conte Creek where water has been over Rainbow Falls just a few minutes earlier. When you cross the road, the nice building on your left is the Twin Creeks Resource Center. The rest of the trail leads us to downtown Gatlinburg. PLEASE WEAR YOUR MASK here. Then we will hike the flat trail back to Sugarlands Visitor Center. .
